Well done to Matthew for coming 6th out of 24 fencers at the under 11 Bath Leon Paul Junior Series this weekend. Brilliant fencing in the group stages, meant Matthew won all five of his poule fights and was ranked third going into the elimination stage. Matthew spiritedly fought his way to the quarter final where he was defeated 8-4 on time. Great progress from Matthew who has been working extremely hard to improve his fencing.
Very good fencing from Joseph, Carl and Kunle, who finished runners up in the under 18 Southern Region Team Championship. I was really pleased with the excellent performance as well as the great team spirit the boys showed.
Great fencing from Sarum Swords fencers, who won seven medals at this weekends Wiltshire Youth Championships. Congratulations to Joseph and Ella-Marie, who were both the Gold medallists in their age groups. Good fencing also from Nat, Adam and Kunle, who were all Bronze medallists in their respective age groups. For fun, Ella also entered the Epee competition and came away with an additional Bronze medal in that event. Thank you to the Wiltshire Fencing Union for running such a good competition.
Well done to Carl, who fenced really well in his first Cadet (under 17) British Championships. Carl won two of his group stage matches and his first direct elimination match before going out to the eventual winner.
From September 27th to the 29th, Sarum Swords club coaches John and Phoebe had the great pleasure to attend an International coaching seminar run by Great Britain Olympic coach, Ziemek Wojciechowski. The course demonstrations were performed by four times Olympian and former World #1, Richard Kruse. This was a fantastic learning experience. Thank you also to Carl, Joe and Kunle for accompanying us as our hard working pupils.
Well done to our fantastic young Sarum Swords under 14 team (Adam, Ella and Matthew), who came 2nd out of 10 teams this weekend. They were victorious in all three of their group stage matches against Romsey, Escrime and Espada fencing club. In an exciting semi final, they edged out the Winchester Escrime ‘A’ team. In the final they pushed the Espada ‘A’ team close, but although they narrowly lost in the final, they should all be really proud of their excellent fencing.
Congratulations to Matthew who fenced brilliantly to finish in 12th place at the England Youth Championships. Matthew won four group stage matches and his first two elimination bouts, before going out to the top seeded fencer. Great work! Well done also to Ella won two group stage matches and her first elimination to make the last 32 and Adam who also won two group stage matches. I’m really proud of all the fencers who represented us this year!
