Due to the updated guidance from the Government and British Fencing, we are very pleased to have been able to do some training outdoors. Please contact the club if this is something you would be interested in.
Thank you to everyone who came to our first online training session. We did agility games, bladework with two foils and a footwork session focusing on controlling the back leg. I’m hoping to run them every Sunday. If you would like to join us, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will send you the invite. You don’t need to be a member of the club to participate.
Whilst we are stuck indoors, I wanted to try and put some training together that people can do at home in a small space. As I create more content, I will post the videos here:
Thank you to Steven Davey and Allen Cooke for helping to run such a brilliant training day at Winchester College. The fencers worked on exercises to improve physical preparation, dealing with an opponent who presses with absence of blade and fencing under set conditions where their tactical repertoire was intentionally limited.
Thank you to Ian Sheridan from That’s TV Wessex for coming and visiting our club. His report can be watched here:
A brilliant performance today from all our fencers at the Southern Region fencing Championships. Well done to our four new Southern Region medallists and five qualifiers to the British Youth Championships. I’m so proud of everyone who represented us today!

Another fantastic weekend of fencing for the club at the Hampshire Senior Championships. In the individual men’s foil event, Sarum Swords dominated, coming 1st, 2nd and 3rd. We then went on to win the team event, defeating Romsey and Espada fencing clubs on the way to the title. Brilliant fencing!
Great fencing from our Sarum Swords fencers this weekend. Our competitors, represented the club fantastically well, winning every single age category that we entered at the Hampshire County Youth Championships. Congratulations to our three new County fencing Champions, Matthew (under 12), Kunle (under 16) and Carl (under 18). Special mention to Alec who fenced brilliantly to win Silver, only going out to club mate Kunle in the final.
Well done to Matthew for coming 6th out of 24 fencers at the under 11 Bath Leon Paul Junior Series this weekend. Brilliant fencing in the group stages, meant Matthew won all five of his poule fights and was ranked third going into the elimination stage. Matthew spiritedly fought his way to the quarter final where he was defeated 8-4 on time. Great progress from Matthew who has been working extremely hard to improve his fencing.

Very good fencing from Joseph, Carl and Kunle, who finished runners up in the under 18 Southern Region Team Championship. I was really pleased with the excellent performance as well as the great team spirit the boys showed.
